STOP ME IF YOU'VE HEARD THIS ONE

NBC, 1939-1940; MBS, 1947-1948

There is at least two programs of this name. The first was a 30-minute comedy starring Milton Berle, appearing on NBC in 1939-1940. Another program of the same name appeared on Mutual in 1947, a 30-minute panel show on which emcee Roger Bower read jokes sent in my listeners. If any member of the panel knew the joke, he stopped the reading and finished telling the joke. The listener received a prize for each panel member who could not finish the joke, as well as $5 for having had the joke selected for reading on the air. The panelists included Lewe Lehr, Harry Hershfield and Morey Amsterdam. There was also a later television version on NBC.
