A 30-minute situation comedy based on the incredible bumbling of sixteen-year old Henry Aldrich and his family and friends. The program was based on a Broadway play, "What a Life," and was originally heard as a series of skits on the "Rudy Vallee Show," with the parts played by the original Broadway cast. After a year of similar skits on "The Kate Smith Hour," the show appeared as a summer replacement for Jack Benny in 1939 and debutedĀ  on the Blue Network in the fall of the same year. The first and best known Henry was Ezra Stone, who originated the role on stage. He left the show in 1942, but returned in 1945 to finish the run. Homer Brown, Henry's buddy, was played by Jackie Kelk throughout most of the run.
